Virgin Limited Edition, the billionaire’s company that handles seven high-end retreats across the world, has today announced the opening of a new branch in Mallorca. The new hotel is part of the 810-acre Son Bunyola Estate, which is located inside the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains and is set to open in the summer of 2023. The Son Bunyola Hotel is built around an ancient finca from the 15th century. The new boutique hotel will include 28 rooms, two restaurants, eating patios, lounges, and a swimming pool, all with beautiful, original elements. There are also three stand-alone villas on the estate, Sa Terra Rotja, Sa Punta de S’Aguilla, and Son Balagueret, that provide three or four bedrooms and, of course, a bit more solitude.
The hotel’s construction began in June of last year, with the support of Gras Architects and Rialto Living, a Mallorca-based interior designer. The team concentrated on renovating existing structures like the main finca and the tafona (a traditional olive press) while using a variety of local materials and techniques. Stone arches, wrought ironwork, and lime render come to mind.
VLE has also included a few environmentally friendly measures in the hotel. To begin with, the hot water will be pre-heated with energy gathered from the air conditioning and refrigerator cooling systems, and the boiler will be fuelled by recycled wood chips. Meanwhile, the property’s lighting, air conditioning, and electricity use will be monitored and controlled by the new building management system.
Apart from the accommodations, the estate is located in one of the region’s most prominent and protected places. It is surrounded by citrus, almond, and olive trees and has breathtaking views of the Mediterranean shoreline and countryside. It’s also just a short walk away from Mallorca’s famed cliffside restaurant Sa Foradada, which serves paella, fresh fish, and other delectable wood-fired delicacies.

Virgin Limited Edition’s first property in Spain will be Son Bunyola Estate. Kasbah Tamadot in Morocco and the Caribbean’s Moskito and Necker Islands—the latter two of which Branson frequents—are among the group’s other hideaways.
The hotel and private villas at Son Bunyola Estate will accept reservations later this year.
