The collection, titled “Dior Tears,” is supposed to pay honor to Black artists and creatives such as James Baldwin and jazz musician Miles Davis, who were celebrated in Europe in the 1950s even while segregation raged in the United States. The collection is defined as American homespun meets French high craft while operating as a microcosm of Denim Tears and its underlying discussion connecting to the African diaspora. It is inspired by the artists’ experiences and the look of black Ivy league students in the 1950s. With its workplace designs, the collaborative collection also pays respect to the civil rights struggle.

Cotton wreaths in the shape of peace signs decorate Dior monogrammed pieces, while Rasta colors and colours associated with the Pan-African flag are distributed across mohair sweaters and scarves. Meanwhile, collegiate inspirations can be found on varsity jackets and shirts with fuzzy “Dior Tears” armbands, as well as knitted v-neck vests with “Dior Tears” that look like basketball jerseys.

Classic tailoring pieces come with subtle details and thoughtful fabric selections, while cotton plant graphics are dispersed over daily essentials, offering a wide range of pairings for varied situations.

Denim Tear, launched in 2019 by Emory, introduces its Dior collaboration, after relationships with Levi’s, Converse, and Ugg.
