Between avant-garde architecture and naturalism design, the Hôtel des Horlogers
A fire destroyed the hotel, which was still known as the Hôtel de France at the time, in 1982. It was reconstructed and renovated as part of a tourism promotion initiative in the Vallée de Joux in 1984. It swiftly ascended to the status of 4-star hotel. In 2003, Audemars Piguet purchased the hotel and renamed it “Hôtel des Horlogers” (The Watchmakers’ Hotel). However, at that time, the structure no longer suited current ecological and energy requirements, therefore the firm renovated it in 2006 to meet the demanding Minergie Eco criteria.

Bjarke Ingels (Bjarke Ingels Group, BIG) deviated from traditional hotel architecture codes for the Hôtel des Horlogers: inspired by the Risoud forest bordering the Vallée de Joux, the architect ensured that each of the fifty rooms, linked together by a continuous concrete corridor, offered a breathtaking view of the region. The institution integrates into nature with its zigzagging slabs that drop down to the valley, establishing a new public environment in the process. A successful cooperation with the Swiss architectural company CCHE – he and Bjarke Ingels had already worked on the Musée Atelier Audemars Piguet.
The Hôtel des Horlogers, special gastronomy experiences, or on-the-go meals for sensory stimulation
Guests may dine at the Brasserie Le Gogant, which is named after the massive, isolated white fir tree that carries the same name and has a view of the Risoud forest. The restaurant La Table des Horlogers by Emmanuel Renaut will shortly open, where the three-starred chef (from the restaurant Flocons de sel in Megève) will offer a culinary menu for lunch and supper seven days a week.
