The Switzerland Tourism movie own tennis hero Roger Federer and multi-award winning actress Anne Hathaway, who — in a fake scenario, it should be noted – embark on a road trip to record a promotional tourist video that covers the Grand Tour of Switzerland. The Grand Tour is a 1,643-kilometer circuit that takes in some of the most breathtaking vistas and landscapes in the country. As a result, Roger and Anne embark on a series of heroic escapades – hopping over glaciers, synchronised swimming through frigid glacial waters – only to be eliminated from the final cut of the new advertisement, which focuses solely on Switzerland’s beauty.
As Anne points out, in the completed version, Roger and Anne “appear like ants,” since the filmmaker chose to focus on gleaming lakes, towering mountains, and wide meadows rather than the two A-list celebrities. Surprisingly, the mega-famous couple isn’t thrilled about being deleted out the film, and they squabble with the director and his editing staff to no end.
Roger’s “great abs” on show in a swimming scene are even praised by one of the team members — after brutally cutting them out, that is. Don’t get too excited because there are no abs in this commercial, no matter how fantastic they are.
“Well, now I see why Bob passed,” Anne wisely observes, referring to Robert De Niro’s performance in a Switzerland Tourism commercial last year.
You can’t help but think that the filmmaker and his crew have a point, as sad as it is for the two. Switzerland is breathtakingly gorgeous, and the Grand Tour landscape ought to be viewed in “the broad pictures,” as Roger puts it, or – even better – in person.
